The Sun City Resort in the Pilanesberg in the North West Province is one of the most remarkable destinations in Africa. It is an enormous kingdom like destination of luxurious hotels, glittering entertainment centers, restaurants, gaming rooms, shops, discos and extensive, beautifully landscaped grounds, rated among the world's most unusually conceived, and most lavish, inland resorts. Private game lodges like Makanyane Safari Lodge and Ivory Tree Game Lodge provide extreme exclusivity and Sun City is  only a short drive away. (Search other establishments close to Sun City).

The Valley of Waves links The Palace of the Lost City Hotel to the Entertainment Centre. The legend of The Lost City is that centuries before tall ships were ever dreamed about - long before the dawn of a western civilization - a tribe from northern Africa brought their proud traditions of mighty architecture, luxurious hospitality and love of nature to an ancient volcanic crater they called the Valley of the Sun. An earthquake ruined the magnificent city they had created and forced the people to flee, but today it has been "discovered" and "restored" to its former splendor as The Lost City at Sun City.

A huge arrangement of interlinked pools and two kilometers of walkways that lead through gardens and over, and under, rock formations keep visitors busy all the time. Among the Waterscape's permanent residents are swans, herons, and the rare South African black duck.

It has its own 25 Hectare jungle of 3 500 trees, drawn from around the world, plus a 100 x 60 m swimming pool and 'beach', with 1,8 m high artificially created surfing waves. Among other features are massive water chutes for the brave, and a Lazy River Ride for the young and not-so-brave. The entire area is spectacularly illuminated at night.

The Entertainment Centre provides restaurants, bars, discos, speciality shops, conference venues, cinemas, slot machines and a massive 200 seat computerized bingo hall, all in a buzzing atmosphere and African hospitality. In its core is the Superbowl, used for conventions, banquets (seating 3 500 people), extravagant promotions, big-name shows and international events. The Casino offers the standard gaming range plus slot machines, a salon privet for devotees, and the 620-seat Extravaganza Theatre.

The Gary Player Country Club boasts 2 top world-class golf courses and has hosted most of the world's greatest players. It is the venue for the annual Million Dollar Golf Challenge.

The Kwena Crocodile Garden at the entrance gate, is a reptile park and ranch distinguished by its dramatically 'ethnic' architecture, its luxuriantly tropical surround, and by the giant Nile crocodiles it contains, including 'Footloose', a 120-year old crocodile weighing 800 kg.

Outdoor activities include tennis, bowls, squash, horse-riding, swimming, tenpin bowling, an animal farm for children and game viewing at Pilanesberg National Park which joins the Resort. This beautiful national Park is a big 5 zone. The wildlife rich Pilanesberg National Park is 5min away from the famous Sun City. The eroded crater of a long extinct volcano forms the largest sanctuary of the Middleveld, the 55 000 ha Pilanesberg National Park. It was established in 1979 by the then Republic of Bophuthatswana. The heart of the volcanoes crater is surrounded by three concentric rings of hills. Pilanesberg itself is the highest peak and provides its name to the whole formation. The Pilanesberg Peak overlooks the Mankwe Dam, which is situated in the middle of the Pilanesberg National park.
